The US Navy's LCAC is an amphibious vehicle used by the Navy to transport vehicles from ship to shore. The vehicles (Humvees, tanks) must be secured to withstand NATO Sea State 4. Shifting cargo, flat tires can create loosened preloads on existing tie-downs. Cooper Perkins proposed a concept design in a Phase 1 development effort demonstrating an automatic tensioning and remotely releasing 35,000-lb capacity tie-down. Cooper Perkins is currently completing Phase 2 of this ONR Science & Technology project.
